CURRENT SITUATION OF THE USE OF ANTIBIOTICS.

The rise of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria is one of the biggest public health problems in recent decades. This creation of resistance is due in large part to the use of antibiotics in animal production and to a greater extent in human medicine when they are administered without control or indication by doctors.

Fortunately, there is a global trend of reducing the use of antibiotics to a total elimination of use in animal production.

It is a global challenge that requires the collaboration and effort of all health elements, both human and animal. We must be clear that the strategy to reduce the use of antibiotics must be supported by an investment in biosafety, thus preventing the appearance of diseases and reducing the need for the use of treatments

In Europe, we are in the fight against the use of antibiotics. Almost 10 years have passed since the communication of the European Commission that requested the Member States to draft and implement by country an Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance, from there each Member State approved its own National Plan. From the first moment of the approval of the PRAN there was a breakthrough in reducing the use of antibiotics.

In contrast to Europe, some countries have not made progress in developing strategies to reduce the use of antibiotics or actions to minimize them. Fortunately, in these countries, the consumption of antibiotics is reduced favored by globalization.

More and more countries are opening up abroad by exporting their meat production, and in many cases, this meat production is destined for markets where a generalized antibiotic-free production is required or that the periods of suppression are respected.

In livestock, the main use of antibiotics is for the treatment of digestive and respiratory diseases. Another secondary use of antibiotics is to promote the growth of animals, in Europe, this use has been prohibited since 2006.

ALTERNATIVES TO THE USE OF ANTIBIOTICS.

Fortunately, in the market there are many solutions to pathologies caused by bacteria, which, developed and worked independently, will report positive results, but if we want to achieve the maximum benefit, work must be done on both biosecurity and nutrition. The commitment to antibiotic-free animal production is possible by establishing a work base with biosecurity as the cornerstone. In this way, in a preventive way, it will be possible to reduce the pathologies of the farms without having to resort to the use of antibiotics.

In addition, biosecurity must be complemented with natural nutritional elements that provide the digestive health that animals need. These supplements will reduce the appearance or decrease the severity of diseases in production animals.

NUTRITIONAL PREMIXES.

Currently, there are nutritional premixes for animals that improve their digestive health preventing and helping to stabilize the microbial flora in case of dysentery and dysbiosis.

These nutritional premixes contain prebiotics and probiotics that promote the growth of beneficial bacteria for the body, preventing the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria thanks to competitive exclusion and favoring the digestion/absorption of essential nutrients for the health of animals.

NUTRICIONALES ZIX – DR.BATA.

The Biocides ZIX company is the exclusive distributor for the Iberian market (Spain and Portugal) of the nutritional products of the Hungarian company Dr. Bata. Dr. Bata, a leading company in the development of innovative nutritional products based on fermentation products.

In the case of the pig sector, Pig Zix product is composed of natural substances, based on carob, thyme, and chicory seeds, which favor the balance of the intestinal microbiota and thus prevent the digestive disorders observed in this species.

The company Biocides ZIX has carried out field studies using this product in fattening pigs, significantly improving the conversion rates in the fattening phase. It should be noted that Pig Zix can also be used as an alternative to antibiotic growth promoters.

Biocides ZIX has many satisfied customers, they have managed to reduce the use of antibiotics and have improved their production rates, as confirmed in the field study carried out by Agrotest, Juan Grandia (Technical Director of Agrotest).) With the collaboration of the Department of Animal Anatomy, Embryology and Genetics of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Zaragoza

HERBANOPLEX.

The digestive problem is not only a matter of the pig sector, the poultry sector also has its digestive problem, therefore, there is also the need to use natural nutritional products that solve the problems of this sector without having to resort to the use of antibiotics.

A priori, it is not possible to catalog and standardize the population and its problems, several factors influence the microbiota and digestive health of birds (age, diet, type of rearing, etc.). But, if we had to highlight some that especially affect poultry health, they are Necrotic Enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens (CP), Dysbiosis problems, and E. Coli diarrhea.

Biocidas ZIX has the successful tool to control these digestive problems in birds, Herbanoplex is a natural product that combines plant extracts (chicory, hops, and wheat germ) and that improves the intestinal health of birds favoring the balance of the intestinal microbial flora.

As in the case of the pig sector, Biocides ZIX has carried out field studies to test the effectiveness of its product. A first study was carried out in turkey production and the other field study was carried out with laying hens, in both studies notable yields were obtained thanks to the action of their product.

Depending the countries climate, there is a period in the year in which the risk of causing mild or subclinical Dysbiosis and Necrotic Enteritis problems in birds increases. At that time, due to the combination of various factors, animals are more susceptible to epithelial damage, in this case, the PC, as a good opportunist, takes advantage of it to develop, generating small necrotic enteritis. On many occasions these dysbiosis or enteritis are subclinical, but this can cause production losses.

The use of the Herbanoplex product in feed at 1 Kg / t will solve this problem by helping the recovery of the animals, avoiding economic loss, without having to resort to the use of antibiotics to control it.

Natural nutritional products are the real alternative to the use of antibiotics, we must continue to promote the development of natural alternatives for the optimal natural conditions of the digestive environment of our animals.

A saprophytic flora in balance ensures good intestinal health of the animal and good general immunity. Everything is aimed at preserving the health of animals by reducing the use of antibiotics.
