The European scientific committee on veterinary measures relating to public health matters published a warning on the fight against zoonoses in the food chain. Scientists believe that the current methods used to combat these are insufficient, and that collected data shows an increase in zoonotic diseases originating from food over the last twenty years. Agents considered to be of prime importance in public health are:

• Listeria monocytogenes.
• Campylobacter.
• Escherichia coli.
